Fox Valley Court Watch is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization established in 2010 as an all-volunteer group of Kane and Kendall County residents. We seek to provide an impartial assessment of how domestic violence cases are handled in our local courts.
Our work is grounded in public observation, careful documentation, and a commitment to improving the court process for victims of domestic violence and the broader community.

Our Mission
The mission of the Fox Valley Court Watch program is to influence court practices to conform to the Illinois Domestic Violence Act and related laws. Fox Valley Court Watch promotes victim safety, public safety, and abuser accountability.
We observe local court proceedings with care and respect, focusing on patterns and practices that affect individuals, families, and the broader community.
We share what we learn through reports to organizations like the Community Crisis Center and Mutual Ground, as well as Kane and Kendall County court representatives. Our goal is to help make the court process more visible, accessible, and accountable.
What We Expect From the Judicial System
Fox Valley Court Watch believes the judicial system should meet clear standards when handling domestic violence cases.

Why Court Watching Matters
Courtrooms are public spaces, but many people never see how local court proceedings work. Court watching helps bridge that gap by bringing trained community observers into the courtroom and sharing what they learn with the public.

Do I need legal experience to volunteer?
No. Volunteers receive training and support before observing court proceedings. The most important qualities are reliability, attention to detail, and respect for the court process.
What does a court watch volunteer do?
Volunteers attend public domestic violence court proceedings in Kane and Kendall County courtrooms and complete structured assessment forms about what they observe.
Will I participate in the court proceedings?
No. Court watchers do not speak in court or interfere with proceedings. Volunteers observe respectfully and document what they see.
